Aber Jakob erwiderte: »Ach nein! Wenn du mir eine Liebe erweisen willst, so nimm mein Geschenk von mir an! Denn als ich dein Angesicht sah, war es mir, als hätte ich Gottes Angesicht gesehen: so freundlich hast du mich angesehen.

Jakob antwortete: O nein! Habe ich Gnade vor deinen Augen gefunden, so nimm doch das Geschenk an von meiner Hand; denn deshalb habe ich dein Angesicht gesehen, als sähe ich Gottes Antlitz, und du warst so freundlich gegen mich!

Jakob erwiderte: Nicht doch! Wenn ich dir irgend etwas gelte, so mußt du meine Gabe von mir annehmen. Habe ich ja doch dein Antlitz erschaut, wie das eines himmlischen Wesens, indem du mich zu Gnaden annahmst.

Και ειπεν ο Ιακωβ, Ουχι, παρακαλω· εαν ευρηκα χαριν εμπροσθεν σου, δεξαι το δωρον μου εκ των χειρων μου· διοτι δια τουτο ειδον το προσωπον σου, ως εαν εβλεπον προσωπον Θεου, και συ ευηρεστηθης εις εμε·

Και είπεν ο Ιακώβ, Ουχί, παρακαλώ· εάν εύρηκα χάριν έμπροσθέν σου, δέξαι το δώρον μου εκ των χειρών μου· διότι διά τούτο είδον το πρόσωπόν σου, ως εάν έβλεπον πρόσωπον Θεού, και συ ευηρεστήθης εις εμέ·

And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found favor in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand; forasmuch as I have seen thy face, as one seeth the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

And Jacob said, Not so; but if I have grace in your eyes, take them as a sign of my love, for I have seen your face as one may see the face of God, and you have been pleased with me.

And Jacob said: “I beg you, let it not be so. But if I have found favor in your eyes, receive a small present from my hands. For I have looked upon your face as I would look upon the countenance of God. Be gracious to me,
