Bei jedem Fall von Veruntreuung, mag es sich um ein Rind, einen Esel, ein Stück Kleinvieh, ein Kleidungsstück, kurz um irgend etwas abhanden Gekommenes handeln, wovon jemand behauptet, daß es sein Eigentum sei, soll die Angelegenheit beider vor Gott kommen, und wen Gott für schuldig erklärt, der soll dem andern doppelten Ersatz leisten. –
Ist aber der Dieb nicht zu finden, so soll man den Hausherrn vor Gott bringen und ihn darüber verhören , ob er sich nicht vergriffen habe an seines Nächsten Gut.
Bei irgend einem Eigentumsverbrechen, mag es sich nun um ein Rind handeln oder um einen Esel, ein Schaf, ein Obergewand oder überhaupt etwas abhanden Gekommenes, von dem einer behauptet: das ist es! soll die Angelegenheit beider vor Gott gebracht werden, und wenn ihn Gott für schuldig erklärt, soll er dem anderen als Ersatz das Doppelte entrichten.

If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall come near unto God, to see whether he have not put his hand unto his neighbor’s goods.
If they do not get the thief, let the master of the house come before the judges and take an oath that he has not put his hand on his neighbour's goods.

Si le larron ne se trouve point, le maître de la maison sera amené devant Dieu, pour jurer s'il n'a point mis la main sur le bien de son prochain.
Si on ne découvre pas le voleur, le maître de la maison comparaîtra devant Dieu pour [qu'on sache] s'il n'a pas mis la main sur le bien de son prochain.
Mais si le larron ne se trouve point, on fera venir le maître de la maison devant les Juges pour jurer s’il n’a point mis sa main sur le bien de son prochain.
Dans toute affaire d’infidélité touchant un bœuf, touchant un âne, touchant un mouton, touchant un vêtement, touchant toute chose perdue dont on dira: C’est cela, – l’affaire des deux [parties] viendra devant les juges; celui que les juges condamneront fera compensation au double à son prochain.
Quel que soit le corps du délit, bœuf, âne, brebis, vêtement ou tout objet perdu, au sujet duquel on dira: " C'est bien cela! " la cause des deux parties ira jusqu'à Dieu, et celui que Dieu aura condamné restituera le double à son prochain.
