اني اريد ان جميعكم تتكلمون بألسنة ولكن بالأولى ان تتنبأوا . لان من يتنبأ اعظم ممن يتكلم بألسنة الا اذا ترجم حتى تنال الكنيسة بنيانا.

und wartete auf eine günstige Gelegenheit zur Erreichung seiner schlimmen Absicht. Als er dann von Demetrius in eine Ratsversammlung berufen war und man ihn nach der Gesinnung und nach den Absichten der Juden befragte, gab er folgende Antwort:

Ich wünschte, daß ihr alle in Zungen redetet, noch viel mehr aber, daß ihr weissagen könntet. Denn wer weissagt, ist größer, als wer in Zungen redet; es sei denn, daß er es auslege, damit die Gemeinde Erbauung empfange.

Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

Now though it is my desire for you all to have the power of tongues, it would give me more pleasure to be hearing the prophet's word from you; for this is a greater thing than using tongues, if the sense is not given at the same time, for the good of the church.

But, having met with an opportune time for his madness, he was called to a counsel by Demetrius and asked what things the Jews relied upon and what were their counsels.

Now I desire that ye should all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy. But greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interpret, that the assembly may receive edification.

But having gotten a convenient time to further his madness, being called to counsel by Demetrius, and asked what the Jews relied upon, and what were their counsels,

I would that ye all spake strange languages, but rather that ye prophecied: for greater is hee that prophecieth, then hee that speaketh diuers tongues, except hee expound it, that the Church may receiue edification.
