About this tool

Cuts text to an exact character or word count, optionally appending an ellipsis. Useful for crafting meta descriptions (155 characters), tweet previews (280 characters), or any content that must fit a strict limit.

The tool counts actual characters, not bytes — so accented letters, emoji and CJK characters each count as one. Word mode splits on whitespace and never breaks a word in the middle.

When the ellipsis option is on, the tool reserves space for it inside your limit, so the total output never exceeds the number you set. Processing is instant and local — your text is not sent anywhere.
