The SHIB price in reais with the time the quote was taken, a converter built for the millions of tokens people actually hold, and the arithmetic behind that fraction of a centavo.
Shiba Inu (SHIB): R$ 0,000028, +6,94%.
Shiba Inu is a memecoin, and that is a description rather than an insult: no product it has to run, no revenue, nothing its holders need it for. It appeared in August 2020 from an anonymous founder writing as Ryoshi, a token on the Ethereum network that called itself a Dogecoin killer, issued as one quadrillion units. Half went unasked to Vitalik Buterin's wallet; in May 2021 he burned about 410 trillion and gave the rest, then worth roughly a billion dollars, to an Indian Covid relief fund. Some 589 trillion tokens circulate today.
That number is why one token costs a fraction of a centavo, and why the price reads as cheap to anyone who has not compared it with the total. Multiply before deciding: at one US cent per token, 589 trillion tokens come to about 5.9 trillion dollars — more than every cryptocurrency in existence put together. One real per token is arithmetic that does not close. What moves the price is attention: a listing, a burn announcement, a wave of buying that follows Dogecoin's. SHIB peaked in October 2021, fell more than 90%, and has not been back.
Things were built around the token afterwards: an exchange of its own, two companion tokens, and Shibarium, a cheaper network launched in August 2023 whose opening days went badly enough that the bridge had to be paused, and whose fees burn a trickle of SHIB — billions against hundreds of trillions circulating, which does not change the arithmetic above. The value at the top is a CoinGecko reference averaged across exchanges, saved by a job that runs every half hour, with the moment of the quote beside it; your exchange adds its own spread and fees, which bite harder on a token this cheap.
From CoinGecko, an average across many exchanges, saved by a job that runs every 30 minutes; the date and time of that quote sit under the value. Press "Refresh rate" to fetch the current one. SHIB trades on Sundays too.
Because this is an average reference and an exchange is a shop: it quotes its own buying and selling prices with a spread, charges a trading fee and charges again to withdraw. Those costs are proportionally heavier on a token this cheap.
No, and it is the most expensive mistake in this corner of the market. The unit price is small because the units are many; what counts is the two multiplied. At one US cent, the 589 trillion in circulation would total some 5.9 trillion dollars.
Not measurably. Burning removes tokens, but the amounts are billions against hundreds of trillions — a rounding error at that scale. The exception was 2021, when 410 trillion went at once; nothing since has come within three orders of magnitude.
Trade it, and stake it in the project's own applications. A few merchants accept it, but almost all the volume is people buying and selling to each other. Nobody needs SHIB to do anything, which is why the price is a function of attention.
