How to use

  1. Pick the two currencies — any of the sixteen listed, plus gold and the real.
  2. Type an amount on either side; the other side follows as you type.
  3. Press "Refresh rate" if you need the value of the moment instead of the one stored by the last scheduled update.

About this tool

One converter for every currency this directory tracks: the dollar, the euro, the pound, the Swiss franc, the Canadian and Australian dollars, the yen, the yuan, the won and the rupee, the Argentine, Chilean and Uruguayan pesos, the guarani, the sol — and gold, priced by the troy ounce. All of them are stored quoted against the real, which is the honest way to do it here: the deep, liquid market in Brazil is the dollar against the real, and everything else is priced from it. The consequence is worth knowing before you trust a result. A pair that does not involve the real — euros to pounds, say — is converted through the real, so it carries two legs and the rounding of both, and a bank quoting that pair directly will land on a slightly different figure.

The rates are commercial ones: the interbank reference published for the Brazilian market by AwesomeAPI, taken as the bid. A job on our server stores the whole set every 30 minutes and the page prints the value into the HTML with the date and time beside it, legible before any script runs, and says plainly when it has gone stale instead of passing an old figure off as current. The refresh button is the only thing here that touches the network — a converter that silently calls an API on every page load is a converter whose number you cannot date.

Use it for what a commercial rate is good for: reading an invoice from a foreign supplier, sizing an imported part, understanding a salary advertised abroad, splitting the bill of a trip afterwards, checking whether a quote you were given is in the right neighbourhood. Do not use it as the price of a counter. Retail exchange adds a bureau or bank spread — commonly 4% to 10% — and then the IOF, which since the 2025 decree is 3.5% on cash, prepaid cards and credit or debit cards alike; the travel dollar and travel euro pages work that out in detail. And one thing that saves confusion: currency markets close at weekends and on holidays, so a Sunday figure is Friday's close and will not move however many times you refresh. Crypto, which never closes, behaves differently.

The formula

Every rate is stored as units of real per unit of foreign currency. Converting A to B when neither is the real: amount in B = amount in A × (rate of A in reais) ÷ (rate of B in reais). Converting to or from the real uses a single multiplication or division. Gold is stored per troy ounce of 31.1034768 g. Rates are the bid published by AwesomeAPI for the Brazilian market, stored by a scheduled job every 30 minutes and fetched live only when you press the refresh button.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these rates come from and how old are they?

From AwesomeAPI, which publishes quotes for the Brazilian market. A job on our server stores the whole set every 30 minutes and prints the value into the HTML with its date and time, readable without JavaScript. Past two hours the page warns the figure is old, and the refresh button fetches the current one.

Why is this rate different from the one my bank charged me?

Because this is the commercial rate — the wholesale reference between banks — and your bank sells retail. It applies its own spread over that reference, commonly several percent, and then the IOF of 3.5%. The commercial rate is the floor of what you pay, never the amount itself.

Why does euro to pound differ slightly from a foreign site?

Because every rate here is quoted against the real, so that pair is converted through the real and carries both legs. A site quoting EUR/GBP directly uses one market price. For everyday amounts the gap is small; for a large transfer, take the number from whoever executes the trade.

Why has the rate not moved since Friday?

Because currency markets close at weekends and on public holidays. A Saturday or Sunday quote is Friday's closing figure and refreshing will not change it. Gold follows the same calendar; cryptocurrencies, which trade without interruption, do not.

Does the page record what I convert?

No. The amounts you type stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. The only network request this page makes is the one you trigger with the refresh button, and it asks for a rate — it says nothing about what you were converting.
