  3. Check when the next equinox or solstice occurs — the astronomical events that mark season boundaries.

About this tool

Shows the astronomical season for any date and the exact dates of the equinoxes and solstices that bracket it. Seasons are reversed between hemispheres: when it is summer in Brazil (Southern), it is winter in Europe (Northern).

The tool calculates equinox and solstice dates using the astronomical algorithm based on the Earth's orbital position. These dates shift by a day or two each year because the tropical year is not exactly 365 days.

Meteorological seasons (Dec–Feb = summer in the South) differ from astronomical seasons, which start at the solstice or equinox. This tool uses astronomical seasons — the ones tied to the actual tilt of the Earth's axis.
