A clothing size is a label a brand chose, not a measurement. The number 40 on a Brazilian tag means whatever that brand decided it means, and no law or standard says otherwise. The ABNT publishes reference body measurements, but they standardise the person, not the garment, and compliance is voluntary — which is why two Brazilian M shirts can be cut for bodies five centimetres apart. This converter does what it honestly can: it takes the one objective input — your body measurements in centimetres — and maps it to the label most brands would use.
The chart works with three measurements: bust or chest, waist and hip, all in centimetres or inches. Tops follow the bust or chest, bottoms follow the hip, and a full-body garment like a dress follows the largest of the three. When the three land on different rows, the page says so explicitly, because that is the real answer: bodies are not one number, and pretending otherwise is how online orders get returned. The BR, EU, US and UK columns are the correspondences in common use across Brazilian retail; they are stable enough to narrow the search, and too unstable to guarantee a fit.
