Da nahm Sechanja, der Sohn Jehiels, aus der Familie Elam, das Wort und sagte zu Esra: »Wir haben uns an unserm Gott versündigt, daß wir fremde Frauen aus den Völkerschaften des Landes geheiratet haben; aber trotzdem ist auch jetzt noch Hoffnung für Israel vorhanden.

Und Sechanja, der Sohn Jechiels, aus den Kindern Elams, antwortete und sprach zu Esra: Wir haben uns an unserm Gott versündigt, daß wir fremde Frauen aus den Völkern des Landes heimgeführt haben. Nun aber ist noch Hoffnung für Israel!

Da hob Sechanja, der Sohn Jehïels, von den Nachkommen Elams, an und sprach zu Esra: Wir haben uns vergangen gegen unseren Gott, daß wir fremde Weiber von den Bewohnern des Landes heimgeführt haben; doch ist dieserhalb jetzt noch Hoffnung für Israel!

Και απεκριθη Σεχανιας ο υιος του Ιεχιηλ, εκ των υιων Ελαμ, και ειπε προς τον Εσδραν, Ημεις ηνομησαμεν εις τον Θεον ημων και ελαβομεν ξενας γυναικας εκ των λαων της γης· πλην τωρα ειναι ελπις εις τον Ισραηλ περι τουτου·

Και απεκρίθη Σεχανίας ο υιός του Ιεχιήλ, εκ των υιών Ελάμ, και είπε προς τον Έσδραν, Ημείς ηνομήσαμεν εις τον Θεόν ημών και ελάβομεν ξένας γυναίκας εκ των λαών της γής· πλην τώρα είναι ελπίς εις τον Ισραήλ περί τούτου·

And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
