Darum hielt der König einen Rat und machte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zum Volk: Es ist zu viel für euch, nach Jerusalem hinaufzugehen! Siehe, das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägyptenland geführt haben!

Darum ging der König mit sich zu Rate, fertigte zwei goldene Kälber und sprach zum Volke: Ihr seid nun lange genug nach Jerusalem gepilgert! Da hast du deine Gottheit, Israel, die dich aus Ägypten hergeführt hat.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

So after taking thought the king made two oxen of gold; and he said to the people, You have been going up to Jerusalem long enough; see! these are your gods, O Israel, who took you out of the land of Egypt.

And devising a plan, he made two golden calves. And he said to them: “No longer choose to ascend to Jerusalem. Behold, these are your gods, O Israel, who led you away from the land of Egypt!”
