This is a browser-based voice recorder that uses the MediaRecorder API to capture audio from your microphone and save it as a downloadable file. The recording happens entirely inside your browser: the audio stream is split into chunks by the MediaRecorder, and when you stop, those chunks are assembled into a single Blob that you can play back and download. No data is uploaded to any server at any point.
The output format is WebM with Opus codec when the browser supports it, which is the case in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera. Safari may use a different container. The quality depends on your microphone and the browser's encoding settings — for a voice memo or a quick note it is more than sufficient; for a podcast or music recording you would use a dedicated app. The timer updates every quarter of a second and shows the elapsed time in minutes and seconds.
Permission is requested only when you press Start, not when the page loads. The microphone is released the moment you stop or leave the page. If the browser previously denied permission, you need to click the padlock icon in the address bar and change the setting — the page cannot override a denial. On iOS Safari, recording is supported from iOS 14.3 onward.
