The NEAR price in reais with the time the quote was taken, a two-way converter, and what sharding, readable account names and the AI pivot actually amount to.
NEAR Protocol (NEAR): R$ 18,9700, +23,16%.
Two things separate NEAR from the chains it competes with. The first is sharding: rather than every machine processing every transaction, the network splits the work into shards and adds more as demand grows — a design called Nightshade, rolled out in stages since 2021. The second is smaller and far more noticeable day to day. Addresses here are names, so a wallet reads as joao.near instead of forty hexadecimal characters; an account can hold keys with limited permissions, so an app may spend a little without being able to empty the wallet; and an app can pay the network fee for the user, so someone can use it without first buying NEAR. Most complaints about a first crypto transaction are answered by one of those three.
The rest of the picture is more sober. NEAR was co-founded in 2018 by Illia Polosukhin, one of the authors of the research paper that transformers — and therefore modern AI — are built on, and since 2024 that biography has effectively been the price. The project repositioned around user-owned artificial intelligence, and the coin now rises and falls with the market's appetite for AI tokens far more reliably than with anything happening on the chain. There is a scar worth naming too: NEAR launched a stablecoin, USN, and wound it down in October 2022 after Terra's collapse showed what that design can do, the foundation covering a shortfall of around US$ 40 million so holders were made whole. The token peaked above US$ 20 in January 2022 and lost most of that within the year.
The value at the top is a CoinGecko reference, averaged across exchanges and saved by a job that runs every half hour, with the moment of the quote beside it; the exchange you trade on adds its own spread and its own fees. On usage, treat the headline numbers carefully: NEAR has reported very large counts of daily active addresses, and those have been dominated by a handful of reward applications — Sweat Economy, which pays people for steps walked, is the best known — rather than by payments or finance. That is real activity, and it is not the same thing as demand for the coin. There is no specific Brazilian use for NEAR; it appears here because it is listed on Brazilian exchanges.
From CoinGecko, which averages the price across many exchanges, saved here by a job that runs every 30 minutes; the date and time of that quote are printed under the value. Press "Refresh rate" and your browser fetches the current one directly. NEAR trades every day, weekends included.
Because this is an average reference, not an offer. An exchange quotes its own buying and selling prices with a spread between them, charges a trading fee and charges again on withdrawal, so a couple of per cent away from this number is ordinary and a small order widens the gap.
A readable account name instead of a long string of characters; accounts can also create sub-names such as poupanca.joao.near. It is easier to check before sending, which removes one real class of mistake, but it does not make a transfer reversible. Names go to whoever registers them first, so a name resembling a company proves nothing.
You can delegate coins to a validator and take a share of the rewards, and exchanges offer this in one click. The reward comes from about 5% new issuance a year, so it mostly compensates for the dilution of everyone who does not stake. Coins are locked for a few days when you unstake, and staking through a company makes you its creditor.
