How to use

  1. Read the ADA price in reais at the top, with the date and time of the quote under it.
  2. Type an amount in ADA to see it in reais, or a value in reais to see how many ADA it buys.
  3. Press "Refresh rate" for the value of this second — a market reference, not the price your exchange will show.

About this tool

Cardano was started in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, a founder of Ethereum who left after a disagreement over whether the project should be run as a company. What he built instead is defined less by what it does than by how it is built: major components are specified in academic papers, peer-reviewed, and only then implemented, much of the code in Haskell, chosen because programs written in it can be reasoned about formally. Ouroboros, its consensus protocol, was the first proof-of-stake design published with a mathematical security proof, and the network has never used mining. ADA pays its fees, secures it through staking and carries voting rights in its governance.

That method has a cost, and it is the criticism the project has never escaped. Smart contracts, the thing that made Ethereum useful, only reached Cardano in September 2021 — four years after launch, with the Alonzo hard fork. The development eras, named after Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho and Voltaire, each took years. Critics describe a chain with a large market value and comparatively little happening on it; supporters answer that it has run since 2017 with no consensus failure, no inflationary bug and no emergency rollback, which is not true of every large network. Both descriptions are checkable and both are accurate. Neither implies anything about the price.

What moves ADA in reais has two layers. The lower one is its dollar price, which for most of its history has tracked the crypto market as a whole rather than Cardano news: a large Bitcoin move drags it, protocol milestones on their own rarely do. The upper one is the dollar itself, because the price here converts through it — ADA can fall in dollars and still rise in reais on a day the real weakens. Two specifics beyond that: delegating ADA to a stake pool pays a yield without locking anything, the coins staying liquid in your own wallet, which is unusual among proof-of-stake networks; and the supply is capped at 45 billion. The peak was just over three dollars, in September 2021.

Frequently asked questions

Where does this price come from, and how old is the number?

From CoinGecko, which aggregates trades across exchanges. A job on our server stores it every 30 minutes and prints it here with the exact date and time of the quote. The refresh button fetches the current value from the same source. Crypto trades every day of the year, so unlike the dollar this number keeps moving at weekends.

Why is the price on my exchange different from this one?

Because this is an aggregated reference, not an offer. An exchange buys below the market and sells above it — that gap is its spread — and adds trading and withdrawal fees. The Brazilian book for ADA is thinner than the global one, so a large order moves it more.

Does staking ADA lock up my coins?

No. Delegating points your ADA at a stake pool that helps produce blocks, and the pool shares rewards with you every epoch, which lasts five days. The coins never leave your wallet and are never frozen — you can sell at any moment. Rewards are paid in ADA, so their value in reais still moves.

Why do people say Cardano delivers slowly?

Because it has. Peer review before implementation adds years between an announcement and working code, and smart contracts arrived four years after launch. The project treats that as the point rather than a defect. Whether the trade was worth it is a judgement about engineering, not a prediction about the price.

Is this a good moment to buy ADA?

This page does not answer that, and no page honestly can. It shows the current market reference and converts amounts at it. Crypto is volatile: falls of around eighty per cent from a peak have happened in this asset and across the sector. No forecast, no recommendation — only the number and where it came from.
