Find & Replace

Find and replace text in bulk — with case sensitivity, whole-word matching and regex support — in your browser.

How to use

  1. Paste your text, then type what to find and what to replace it with.
  2. Refine the match with the options: case sensitive, whole word, or regex mode for patterns.
  3. Click "Replace all" — the status line shows how many occurrences were replaced. Copy or download the result.

About this tool

Find & Replace changes every occurrence of a term in one pass — the same operation you know from text editors, available anywhere without opening one. Typical jobs: fixing a name misspelled throughout a document, renaming a term across a long text, swapping separators in exported data, updating a URL or product name in dozens of places, or normalizing words before a mail merge. The status line always reports how many occurrences were replaced, so you know the edit actually happened — and how big it was.

By default the search is literal and case-insensitive: whatever you type in the Find field is matched exactly as written, and special characters like dots, asterisks or parentheses need no escaping — the tool escapes them for you. "Case sensitive" makes "Ana" and "ana" different terms. "Whole word" only matches the term when it stands alone: replacing "casa" will not touch "casarão" or "carcaça". Unlike most editors, the word boundary here understands accented letters, so whole-word matching works correctly in Portuguese text.

For advanced edits, "Regex mode" interprets the Find field as a JavaScript regular expression: match digits with \d+, alternatives with (a|b), and reuse captured groups in the replacement with $1, $2 and so on. If the pattern is invalid, nothing is changed and a clear error message explains the problem. Everything runs 100% in your browser — the text, the search term and the result never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to escape characters like . or * in the search?

No. With regex mode off, everything you type is matched literally — the tool escapes special characters automatically. Only in regex mode do those characters gain special meaning.

Can I use capture groups in the replacement?

Yes, in regex mode. Wrap parts of the pattern in parentheses and reference them as $1, $2 in the Replace field — for example, find "(\d+)-(\d+)" and replace with "$2-$1" to swap two numbers.

What exactly does "Whole word" do?

It only matches the term when it is not attached to other letters, digits or underscores. Replacing "arte" will not touch "parte" — and it handles accented letters correctly, unlike the plain \b boundary in most editors.

What happens if my regex is invalid?

Nothing is replaced. A friendly error message in the status line describes what is wrong with the pattern so you can fix it and try again.

Is the search case sensitive?

Not by default — "Casa" and "casa" both match. Tick "Case sensitive" when capitalization matters for your edit.

Does my text leave my browser?

No. Search and replacement run entirely in JavaScript on your device — nothing you paste or type is transmitted or stored.
