Tap the button or press any key to the beat and see the BPM — stabilises after 4-5 taps.
Tap tempo is the simplest way to find the tempo of a piece of music: tap along with the beat, and the tool measures the average interval between taps and converts it to beats per minute. After 4-5 consistent taps the number stabilises, and the last 20 taps are kept in the rolling average.
The precision depends on your consistency, not on the tool — the timer resolution in a modern browser is sub-millisecond, which is far more precise than a human tap. If the BPM jumps around, you are tapping unevenly, not the other way around.
You can also press any key on the keyboard instead of clicking the button, which some people find easier for timing. The tool ignores keypresses when a text input is focused, so it does not interfere with typing.
BPM = 60,000 / average interval in milliseconds.
Two taps give a number, but it takes 4-5 for the average to stabilise. The tool keeps the last 20 taps.
Yes — press any key. The tool listens for keydown events except when a text field is focused.
Because your taps are uneven. Try tapping with a metronome at a known BPM to calibrate your feel.
