How to use

  1. Read the UNI price in reais at the top, with the date and time of the quote under it.
  2. Type an amount in either field — whole coins are the usual unit, since one UNI is worth tens of reais.
  3. Press "Refresh rate" for the current value. UNI trades every day, weekends included.

About this tool

Uniswap is an exchange with no order book and no company holding anybody's coins. Instead of matching buyers to sellers it holds pools: anyone deposits a pair of tokens, and a formula sets the price from the ratio left in the pool, so the bigger your order the worse the price. That is why it works for tokens no exchange would bother listing. But UNI is not the currency of any of this. Uniswap is not a blockchain — it is contracts running on Ethereum and other networks — and the trading fee is paid in that network's own coin, ether on Ethereum. The pool fee goes to whoever supplied the liquidity. UNI buys votes in the protocol's DAO, and by default nothing else.

So the price moves on governance and law, not on trading volume. The recurring subject is the "fee switch": a vote to divert a slice of the liquidity providers' fee to the protocol and, by extension, to holders. It has been proposed, debated and shelved repeatedly since 2020, held up partly by lawyers arguing that switching it on makes the token look far more like a security. The legal side moves it directly too — the SEC sent Uniswap Labs a Wells notice in April 2024 and closed the matter without charges in February 2025. Supply matters as well: vesting for the team and early investors ran out in September 2024, and a perpetual 2% annual issuance sits behind it.

In September 2020 Uniswap sent 400 UNI to every address that had ever used the protocol — worth about a thousand dollars that week and several times that at the 2021 peak, and still the airdrop others are measured against. From around forty-five dollars in May 2021 it fell below four the next year. Two points for a Brazilian: a swap costs a network fee in ether on top of the pool fee, and a token-for-token swap is a disposal for tax purposes here, exactly like selling on an exchange.

Frequently asked questions

Where does this number come from, and how old is it?

From CoinGecko, which averages the price across many exchanges, saved here by a job that runs every 30 minutes; the date and time of that quote sit under the value. Press "Refresh rate" to fetch the current one. UNI trades every day, weekends included.

Why is the price at my exchange different from the one here?

Because this is an average reference, not an offer: an exchange quotes buying and selling prices with a spread, charges a trading fee and charges again on withdrawal. Buy on Uniswap itself and the gap has another cause — the pool price slips as your order eats into it.

Does holding UNI give me a cut of Uniswap's trading fees?

No, and this is the most misread thing about it. The fee on every swap goes to whoever supplied that pool's liquidity. UNI lets you vote in the DAO, which controls the treasury and the protocol's settings. Revenue reaching holders is a decision the DAO has repeatedly declined to take.

What is the "fee switch" everyone argues about?

A setting already written into the contracts that would take part of the liquidity providers' fee and send it to the protocol instead. It has stalled for years for two reasons: it makes supplying liquidity less attractive, pushing that money to rivals, and it strengthens the argument that UNI is an investment contract under American law.

Do I need UNI to trade on Uniswap?

No. You need the two tokens you are swapping and enough of the network's own coin to pay the fee — ether on Ethereum, the equivalent on the cheaper networks Uniswap also runs on. Buying UNI is a separate decision from using the exchange.
