What Is My IP

See your public IP address and approximate location — city, state, country — detected from the connection, with nothing to install.

How to use

  1. Open the page — your IP address and approximate location appear instantly, detected from the connection itself.
  2. Click "Copy" to grab the IP address. The location shown is an estimate from the MaxMind GeoIP database.
  3. Behind a VPN or proxy the page shows the exit IP, not your real one — that is the point of a VPN.

About this tool

Every device connected to the internet has a public IP address assigned by the internet service provider. It is the return address on every packet your browser sends, and it is visible to every server you connect to. This page reads that address from the connection itself and looks it up in a geolocation database to show the approximate city, state and country.

The geolocation is an estimate, not a GPS fix. It comes from the MaxMind GeoLite2 database, which maps IP ranges to locations based on registration records and network topology. For home broadband the city is usually right; for mobile connections it can be off by a region, because mobile carriers route traffic through regional gateways. If you are behind a VPN, a proxy or a corporate network, the IP shown is the exit point of that tunnel, not your physical location — and that is exactly how a VPN is supposed to work.

Nothing is stored. The IP is read from the HTTP headers of your own request and the lookup happens in a local database on this server — no external API is called, and the result is not logged or saved beyond the normal access log that every web server keeps. Reload the page and it reads the same headers again; change network and the answer changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this my real IP address?

It is the IP address your browser is using to reach this server. Behind a VPN, a proxy or a NAT it is the exit address of that intermediate, not the one your ISP assigned to your router.

Why is the location wrong?

Because geolocation maps IP ranges to approximate locations, not exact ones. Mobile carriers, corporate VPNs and recently reassigned IP blocks can place the dot in the wrong city or even the wrong state.

Is my IP saved anywhere?

Not by this tool. The lookup runs in a local database on the server and the result is sent to your browser without being stored. The standard web-server access log does record the IP, as it does for every page you visit on any site.

IPv4 or IPv6?

Whichever your browser used to connect. Most Brazilian connections still use IPv4 or dual-stack, so the address is usually four groups of numbers.

Can someone find my home with my IP?

No. The geolocation resolves to a city or a neighbourhood at best, never to a street address. Only the ISP can link the IP to a physical connection, and they do so only under a court order.
